Better mats begin
with the right blend.

A cow mat is a complete material system. Resin selection, texture, thickness and construction work together to define its performance.

Bajaj Masterbatch provides colour, black, white, mineral-filled and additive options for evaluation in suitable PE formulations. Start with your HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE or PE blend, then match the masterbatch to your processing and finished-product requirements.

Specify the material first. This page covers PE-based mats and PE flooring components. Rubber, PVC, EVA and other elastomer systems require a separate compatibility assessment. Confirm the selected grade’s carrier and suitability with Bajaj’s technical team.

01 / PRIMARY APPLICATION

PE-based cow mats

For manufacturers developing PE-based resting mats, mat covers or flooring components for cattle sheds. Review the resin blend and structure before selecting the colour and stabilization package.

Trial priorities: flexibility, compression behaviour, tear resistance, surface finish and wet traction.

The complete mat design determines comfort and grip.

02 / CATTLE SHEDS

Cattle mats

Match PE mat components to repeated standing and movement. Evaluate wear, dimensional stability and the finished surface under realistic use conditions.

03 / DAIRY AREAS

Dairy flooring mats

Account for wash-down, cleaning chemicals and wet surfaces. Colour and additives should be selected alongside texture, drainage and cleaning requirements.

04 / LIVESTOCK HOUSING

Livestock flooring

For suitable PE panels, mat layers and floor modules. Tailor the formulation to the animal, installation method and indoor or outdoor exposure.

How PE-based cow mats are made

From polymer blend.
To finished cow mat.

The manufacturing process follows the mat’s construction. A cushioning foam mat, a solid PE sheet and a moulded flooring component need different materials and equipment.

ROUTE 01 / CUSHIONING STRUCTURES

PE foam production

Suitable LDPE-based foam formulations can be processed into cushioning sheets. Depending on the foam system, production uses foam extrusion or a crosslinking and foaming sequence. Sheets may then be laminated, textured and cut to form the intended mat construction.

Masterbatch fit: confirm compatibility with expansion, cell structure and any crosslinking system. A general-purpose PE grade is not automatically suitable for foam.

ROUTE 02 / SOLID PE COMPONENTS

Sheet extrusion or moulding

Suitable PE / HDPE formulations can be extruded through a sheet die, cooled and textured, then cut to size. Moulding may be used for components that need a defined shape, profile or fixing detail.

Construction fit: solid HDPE is relatively rigid. Its suitability as a mat layer or flooring component must be assessed separately from the cushioning requirements of a resting mat.

A typical development and production sequence

Select the base blend

Define the mat construction and choose the resin or foam system. Check incoming material quality, recycled content and the required flexibility.

Meter & blend

Add the selected Bajaj colour and functional masterbatches at agreed trial levels. Distribute them consistently through the formulation.

Form the structure

Melt-process the blend using the chosen sheet, foam or moulding route. For foam, expansion and any crosslinking step follow the specific system.

Finish the surface

Cool or condition the material as required. Form texture or drainage details, and laminate layers where the mat design calls for them.

Cut & assemble

Trim sheets to size, finish edges and assemble any layers or covers. Check dimensions and bonding where applicable.

Test the finished mat

Evaluate colour, surface defects, tear behaviour, compression recovery and wet traction. Assess ageing and cleaning resistance for the intended use.

Choose the process before the grade. This is a manufacturing overview, not a fixed cow-mat recipe. Bajaj supplies masterbatches; the mat manufacturer defines and validates the resin system, process settings and finished construction. Foam-generating gas is intentional; desiccant is considered only for unwanted moisture and must be checked for compatibility with that foam system.

Key features with Bajaj Masterbatch

Colour. Protection.
Formulation control.

Select the functions your PE cow mat needs, then verify them in the actual blend and finished construction.

01 / APPEARANCE

Uniform colour potential

Black, colour and white masterbatches support consistent appearance when the selected grade disperses effectively in the PE formulation.

02 / SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE

UV stabilization

A suitable UV package helps protect the polymer against photo-oxidative degradation in sun-exposed flooring applications.

03 / POLYMER STABILITY

Antioxidant protection

Selected antioxidant grades help limit oxidation associated with heat and oxygen during processing and, where specified, service.

04 / MOISTURE MANAGEMENT

Residual moisture control

A compatible desiccant grade can address moisture-related voids and surface defects when incoming water is the confirmed cause.

05 / MATERIAL BALANCE

PE-carried mineral filler

PE base filler offers a route to adjust the material balance in suitable components, with stiffness, density and flexibility checked together.

06 / PROCESS MATCHING

Application-led selection

Match the carrier, additive package and dispersion requirements to sheet extrusion, foam processing or the chosen moulding process.

Key benefits for cow-mat manufacturers

Better control.
More consistent mats.

A properly selected and validated masterbatch package can support these manufacturing and product outcomes.

CONSISTENT PRESENTATION

A more uniform finish

Controlled colour dosing and effective dispersion help reduce shade variation across mat batches and matching components.

EXPOSURE PERFORMANCE

Support for property retention

Appropriate stabilization can help retain polymer properties under the specified processing and exposure conditions. Service life needs validation.

PROCESSING QUALITY

Fewer moisture defects

Where moisture is the cause, a validated desiccant addition can help reduce unwanted bubbles or voids and the related rejection risk.

PRODUCTION CONSISTENCY

Better control of oxidation

Antioxidant selection can help manage oxidative changes during processing, supporting more consistent material behaviour.

COST & PERFORMANCE

A measured cost balance

Evaluate filler and additive choices against cost per accepted mat, including changes in weight, properties, yield and rejection.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

A focused trial programme

Discuss colour and functional requirements with one supplier, then approve the combination against your cow-mat specification.

The whole mat determines performance. Comfort, anti-slip behaviour, hygiene and load support depend on the resin blend, structure, surface design and installation. These outcomes are not guaranteed by colour or additive masterbatch alone.

Focus on the finished mat

Every detail matters.
Beyond the colour.

Surface & traction

Evaluate texture and grip on the finished mat in wet and dry conditions. Colour masterbatch alone does not create an anti-slip surface.

Flexibility & support

Confirm the resin blend, structure and thickness against the required deformation and recovery. HDPE content alone is not a measure of cushioning.

Exposure & ageing

Consider sunlight, operating temperature and the cleaning regime together when selecting the stabilization package.

Process consistency

Check dosing, dispersion, feedstock quality and moisture alongside surface quality and dimensional repeatability.

Your questions, answered

Before you
start a trial.

Which masterbatch should I evaluate for black PE cow mats?

Start by discussing a PE-compatible black masterbatch with Bajaj. Share the resin blend, manufacturing process, thickness and required shade. Consider UV and antioxidant requirements separately as part of the full formulation review.

Are all cow mats made from PE or HDPE?

No. “Cow mat” describes the application, not the polymer. This page is specifically for PE-based systems and PE components. Confirm the actual material before selecting a masterbatch; recommendations for PE should not be transferred automatically to rubber, PVC or EVA.

Will masterbatch make an HDPE mat soft and non-slip?

These product families are not a substitute for the right base formulation and mat construction. Cushioning depends on the complete material and structure; traction depends on the finished surface and use conditions. Both need to be evaluated on the actual mat.

Can PE filler be used in every cow-mat formulation?

It requires a trial. Filler can change stiffness, density and other properties. Agree the acceptable flexibility, tear and compression behaviour before adjusting loading, especially for foam or softer mat systems.

What dosage should I use?

There is no universal addition level for this application. Ask for the selected grade’s technical data and trial guidance using your exact resin blend, process and performance targets.
