Why Slip Additive Masterbatch is Needed

Without slip additives, polymer films exhibit high surface friction—causing them to stick, snag, tear, and jam in high-speed converting lines. In packaging operations, this translates directly to downtime, waste, and inconsistent output.

Slip additives are added directly into the polymer during extrusion and migrate to the surface as the polymer cools—forming a solid lubricating layer that dramatically reduces the Coefficient of Friction (CoF) and enables smooth, reliable production.

"Slip additives are a practical requirement for both the manufacturer and the end-product consumer — enabling faster lines, better output, and superior packaging quality."

— Bajaj Masterbatches, Technical Division

How Slip Additive Works

A three-phase migration journey from inside the polymer matrix to the film surface—delivering lasting lubrication exactly where it's needed.

🔵

Phase A — Dispersion

Slip additive is homogeneously dispersed within the film. Surface concentration is low, resulting in high CoF. The film is sticky and resistant to movement.

🔄

Phase B — Migration

Due to limited compatibility with the organic substrate, the additive migrates toward the surface. Concentration builds at the film exterior and CoF begins to fall.

Phase C — Equilibrium

A continuous molecular coating forms on the film surface. CoF reaches its minimum value of 0.2–0.3, delivering stable, consistent slip performance.

Slip During the Extrusion Process

Every stage of blown film and BOPP production benefits from controlled slip—here's how it performs throughout the line.

Stage 1

Compounding & Blending

Plast Slip masterbatch is blended with the base resin at 2–5 wt% loading. The additive disperses homogeneously through the melt, ready to migrate post-extrusion. Low loading levels keep costs down without compromising performance.

Stage 2

Extrusion & Die Zone

As the polymer melt passes through the extruder and die, Plast Slip reduces friction between the polymer and metallic surfaces — preventing die build-up, reducing cleaning interruptions, and improving output rates. Silicone-based grades prevent the exudation typical of traditional fatty acid amide additives.

Stage 3

Film Cooling & Surface Migration

As the film cools on the chill roll or in the frost line, the slip additive migrates toward both surfaces. The rate of migration (Phase A → Phase C) is governed by molecular weight — silicone grades migrate more slowly but provide stronger anchoring and more stable long-term CoF.

Stage 4

Downstream Converting & Packaging

With CoF stabilized at 0.2–0.3, the film moves smoothly through winding, slitting, printing, laminating, and form-fill-seal machines. Film rupture, deformation, and jams are eliminated — enabling consistent high-speed converting without scrap or downtime.

What Makes Plast Slip Exceptional

Silicone-Based Technology

Our newest-generation silicone slip additives have higher molecular weights than traditional fatty acid amides — delivering improved anchoring to the resin matrix for stable, long-lasting CoF reduction without exudation or hazing effects that plague organic grades.

BOPP & Cast Film Compatible

Specifically designed for sequential and simultaneous BOPP processing as well as cast film applications — versatile across your entire film portfolio.

Zero Exudation

Unlike traditional organic grades, Plast Slip silicone solutions will not form gel-like exudate layers that transfer to adjacent surfaces, cause haze, or disrupt printing precision and color intensity.

Haze <2% in BOPP

Maintains film clarity at levels below 2% haze even in transparent BOPP — preserving the eye-catching graphics demanded by modern flexible packaging.

Thermal Stability

Maintains stable slip performance over time and under high-temperature processing conditions. Prevents die build-up that causes downtime for cleaning.

🌡

Significant Advantages of Plast Slip

⚙️

Ease of Processing

Prevents layers of film sticking together or sliding uncontrollably. Delivers reduced surface friction with a stable and consistent blown film manufacturing process that operators can rely on shift after shift.

📉

Cost Optimization

Effective at very low loadings of 2–5 wt% and typically added only to the outer layer — minimizing material cost while maximizing performance. Enables down-gauging strategies to reduce polymer consumption.

🔬

Clarity Preservation

New generation silicone grades keep haze in transparent BOPP film below 2%, preserving film clarity. Unlike traditional amide-based additives which can cause hazing that affects printing precision and color intensity.

🚀

Higher Line Speeds

Smooth CoF of 0.2–0.3 enables rapid processing through high-speed converting and packaging equipment, avoiding film rupture or deformation that causes costly scrap. Supports faster production for cost reduction.

🛡️

Long-Term Stability

Maintains stable slip performance over time and under high-temperature conditions. The silicone anchoring mechanism ensures the CoF does not drift — giving processors predictable, reproducible results.

🎯

Versatile Application

Suitable for BOPP, cast film, blown film, injection moulding, and blow moulding applications. Compatible with PP, PE, and polyolefin-based systems across a wide range of processing temperatures.

How Plast Slip is Made

Every batch of Plast Slip is produced under strict quality protocols at our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility — ensuring consistent dispersion, migration performance, and compatibility.

Step 01

Raw Material Selection

High-purity silicone-based or selected fatty acid amide slip agents are sourced and tested for molecular weight, purity, and compatibility with target polymer matrices.

Step 02

Carrier Resin Matching

The slip active is compounded into a carrier resin (typically PP or PE base) chosen to match the target application — ensuring seamless let-down during customer extrusion without compatibility issues.

Step 03

Twin-Screw Extrusion

Active ingredient and carrier are processed through high-shear twin-screw extrusion at precisely controlled temperatures to achieve homogeneous dispersion and consistent pellet geometry.

Step 04

Quality Control & Testing

Every lot undergoes CoF testing, melt flow index verification, and film processing trials at our in-house R&D lab. Products are released only when they meet Bajaj's stringent performance benchmarks.
