Breathable Masterbatch is a functional additive concentrate designed to create microporous structures inside plastic films. When processed through film extrusion and stretching, it forms microvoids (tiny pores) that allow water vapor transmission (WVTR) while preventing liquid penetration.

Breathable masterbatch is primarily based on high-loading calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) combined with dispersion aids and processing stabilizers, enabling the formation of breathable film structures without compromising the film’s strength and quality.

How Breathable Film Works

(Microporous Technology)

The working mechanism of breathable masterbatch is based on micro-porous film formation technology.

During blown film or cast film extrusion:

  • The breathable masterbatch introduces fine CaCO₃ particles into the polymer matrix.

  • During stretching (MDO or film orientation), the polymer separates slightly around these particles.

  • This separation forms microvoids and channels, allowing vapor permeability.

  • The pore size is controlled to ensure high WVTR without compromising liquid barrier.

This process is known as “cavitation effect” and is the core principle behind breathable film manufacturing.
