Troubleshooting guide for Print Lamination Applications
Print Lamination Troubleshooting
Problem
Probable Cause
Suggested Remedy
Temperature Setting
Temperature setting are crucial parameter for proper plastic processing ,hence one should check temperature controller, thermocouple and solid state relay(SSR)
- when you cold start the machine ,wait for 2hours.
Air Bubble entrapment between film and substrate
- Incomplete coating of the film
• Film surface is contaminated - Adhesive does not wet the film
- Adhesive is too viscous
- Ensure dust and oil free film-path and environment
- Add some quantity of liquid detergent (not exceeding 0.1% of the adhesive. Too much will cause foaming)
- Dilute within recommended limits with pure water
Adhesive marks in the laminate
- Adhesive is too viscous
- Adhesive quantity insufficient
- The laminate is not adequately pressed
- Dilute the adhesive within limits. If this does not work, discard the adhesive.
- Increase adhesive pick-up by adjusting applicator roll
- Increase nip roll pressure
Wrinkles in laminate
- Adhesive coated film does not lie flat on the substrate
- Roller bearing may not be free
- Too much voltage fluctuation
- Winder roll jerking
- • Adjust guide rollers suitably
• Adjust pressure on nip rollers
• Adjust bow (banana) roll - Grease/replace bearing and ensure free rotation of the roll
- Ensure voltage stability
- Adjust rewind tension
• Engage clutch properly
Post lamination wrinkles
- Excessive and uneven stretching of film prior to lamination with paper
- Too much dilution of adhesive
- Adjust tension
- Reduce dilution
Wrapping of the laminate
- Too much stretching of film prior to lamination
- Reduce tension
Delamination
- The adhesive is not compatible with film
- Poor bonding due to insufficient adhesive
- Poor bonding due to dilute adhesive
- Treatment of film is low
- Use appropriate adhesive
- Increase adhesive pick up by adjusting the applicator roll
- Reduce dilution
- Check the treatment of substrate
